About Me
Background & Skills
I am a geospatial web developer based in Salt Lake City, Utah. Solving problems, answering questions related to the natural world, and communicating with data and the web are among my passions. I value curiosity, collaboration, and compassion and strive to contribute to building a more open and connected world using science and the web. I currently apply my skills to addressing natural resource management application needs as a contractor for the US Forest Service. My educational background includes full-stack web development, GIS, remote sensing, and I also hold a master’s of science in biology with a landscape ecology research focus.

Projects
Raptor Tracker
A full-stack interactive web application for exploring locations of GPS locations of golden eagles and African vultures tracked with solar-powered GPS trackers by HawkWatch International. A full-stack interactive web application for setting goals and tracking progress. This application is based on the premise that in order to achieve long-term goals, you should focus on maintaining good habits related to the goal and also tracking measurable steps toward it. I built this app for myself and friends as a tool to improve focus and balance around goal-setting and tracking. This is a JavaScript app built on React, NodeJS, Express, PostgreSQL, ChartJS and CSS.

This is an interactive quiz application featuring information about forest and tree ecology including ecosystem services and human interactions. I built this for myself, friends, and family and used it as an opportunity to learn jQuery while creating an interactive learning tool. This quiz app was built using jQuery, plain JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.

This is a front-end web application that allows users to spatially explore recent global earthquake data in the context of global fault locations. I built this after learning about the phenomenon of induced seismicity from a researcher friend of mine. It is intended as a visualization tool for the general public to observe the distribution of earthquakes relative to faults as well as human development. The map was built with Leaflet.js, jQuery, and uses USGS global earthquake data as well as a global fault layer.

When I'm not coding, I play outside.
I’m an explorer of the natural world and enjoy rock climbing, mountain biking, trail running, birding, and wandering. I appreciate and seek to cultivate discipline, creativity and collaboration and often find these qualities brought out in all sorts of physical pursuits as well as projects that bring people together to solve problems.
